Has anyone been following the story in the news about the astronaut who wore a diaper, drove from Texas to Florida, and attacked a female rival for her supposed lover? (not her husband and dad of three btw)
I cannot believe how bizarre the story is and, as more info unfolds, it REALLY gets strange.
Apparently she learned how to wear diapers as an astronaut. Turns out they wear them during launch and re-entry.
Somehow the "glory" of being an astronaut seems a little scarred now.
Thoughts?

If you mean what she did has scarred the glory of astronauts, I have to disagree... she was just one sick woman.
However, if you mean the fact that they wear diapers has scarred the glory of astronauts, I'm sorry, but yes.
I cannot help imagining the re-entry events.... then after they come back and they're walking along, waving and people are cheering.... and they are probably thinking "GET ME TO A BATHROOM so I can change my diaper." LOL

LOL... I do a little work with NASA Johnson and toured the space shuttle simulator/mockup on my last visit. There is an awful lot of what these folks endure that would "scar" the general appeal for being an astronaut.
I briefly (very briefly) worked with Capt. Nowak (then Lcdr. Nowak) while she was still "in" the Navy. No one would have expected this to happen....
It's a real tragedy when good folks self destruct.... I hope this doesn't somehow tarnish the space program. They have enough real challenges....
cheers,

And given that I live on America's Space Coast believe me I know all too well how many challenges our space program is facing.
Nowak was definitely a woman on a mission. From everything I have read about the case she was fully prepared to carry something out against her intended target. And if you think about it, making fun of the diapers might be humorous and all, but in reality it shows that she was thinking about the fact that she did not want anyone to see her on her trek to Florida. (not going into bathrooms minimized her contact with others - pay at the pump, toss the diaper into the back seat, and keep going)
I fully agree...
I sincerely hope that she gets the help she needs, that her poor husband and kids don't suffer too much from this, and that our space program doesn't suffer from this one incident.

You see, my track record is that I can meet a perfectly normal woman and without fail, within 3 to 6 months of being with me, she will turn totally psycho.
It happens EVERY time! (and I swear, it has nothing to do with ME :-)
I think I'll try a new approach next time....
I'll start with one who is ALREADY psycho, and see if she turns the other way.
