Hey Friends,

I was offered, and have accepted, a full time position with the University of Miami School of Medicine. This means that I will (finally) be leaving the streets after 25 years. I submitted my resignation letter this morning to the fire department. It can be marked as one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make.

At U.M. I will be filling the role of Associate Director of Research and Curriculum Development at the Center for Research in Medical Education. My primary role will be to create and design courses for Paramedics and EMTs all over the nation. Because of my experience in the field as well as my background for 21 years as an instructor at the local community college I guess I had what they were looking for regarding this position.

I am, at this point, both excited as well as exhausted. There is one HUGE irony as this is all timing out. My final day on the fire department will also be the day I graduate with my Bachelor of Science that I have been working on since 2002. Incredible to say the least.

I just wanted to share this news/info with you, all of my visitors and online friends. As things transpire I will continue to let you all know. In the meantime, because I will be traveling back and forth to Miami over the next few weeks quite a bit until I can find a place down there, I don't know how often I will be able to come here and "clean up the place". I want to thank the mods up front for babysitting the board for me.

Wish me luck as I enter into this new chapter of my professional life.

Congrats, Jim.

Maybe with a bit of consolation thrown in. I'm sure it's bittersweet.

Jim - WOW - Congrats!!

So this means a move too?

How far is Miami from where you are now?

I know this must have been a really tough decision for you.

Best of luck in the new carrear. I hope you really enjoy it - and I think you already know that you will.

Again, huge congrats!

Jim

Hey Jim and Pete,

Sincere thanks for the kind thoughts. I will indeed have to move to Miami and will be living 180 miles further south.

I know that it's going to be a challenge. Here I can enter literally any ambulance or fire station within the entire county and at least one member of the crew is one of my former students. I live in what is quite literally a comfort zone and now, with this decision, I am leaving that zone and will have to start over and completely prove myself again.

I have been teaching part time with/for U.M. for 3 years now so I do know many of my new co-workers. But that does not change the fact that there is a HUGE difference between part time and full time.

I am both looking forward to the new job and am also very nervous about it. And believe me I am spent a lot of time praying about it. It's a big move but it is also an incredible opportunity. I will finally be able to get myself published which is something I have really been wanting to do for quite some time.

Once again thanks for your kind wishes. I'll keep everyone informed as things transpire.

I am both excited as well as just a bit nervous. I am, afterall, leaving behind that with which I am most familiar.

Hey Steph, while I am posting this to you I might have a little business for you if you have the time. A realtor I am dealing with in Miami is interested in getting herself a website. I told her about you and she would love to contact you in order to get an estimate.

Let me know if you are interested and I will give her your email address.

Thanks again for your kind words. I will watch both my email and here for your reply.
