I think that there must be a lot of people who come in, see the board, and get intimidated or something. Many don't even bother to open anything up and read it.
And so...
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas that might get people to actually stick around, post (or at least read some post), and basically make all of this work worthwhile?
By the way I am getting close to having the new logo done. It is down to two selections. I will be sending a couple of you my final choices in order to let you vote. Then once the logo has been selected I can proceed with the selection of a new home page/template.
Let me know what you all think regarding the people coming in and not really reading anything. Do I need some more topics? Or perhaps ebay's board is just way too much for this board to overcome?
Thanks in advance,
Jim

I can say this only from my own experience... I check out a lot of message boards here and there, and honestly Jim, when I get to a board and there aren't a LOT of posts on there, I don't even register or post.
Are you able to see that you are getting a lot of traffic but no one is posting? Or is it just that no one is visiting?
You might think about going through the more frequent posters "old posts" and repost the better ones, like the advice, reviews of products. etc...

Visitation is slightly up - about 100 to 300 per day right now. They are clicking on the Adsense so that is a good thing but I am beginning to see that this will take time getting a nice following at this board.
As for your idea regarding posting some of the better post from the old board the main problem with that would be the fact that either they would all come from me or I would have to spend a lot of time actually typing in who they were from.
I believe that once the new website homepage is up and running it will make this board a little more sticky.
Can you tell whether or not the eBay ads you listed here ended up getting any increases in traffic?
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Truthfully, I haven't taken notice of the counters for traffic, but I haven't noticed any upswing of sales.

I almost didn't sign up either, but changed my mind.
How about having a forum for other Auction Sites besides Ebay. I have an Ebay store, but I am tired of their high fees. So I started my on Auction Site for Jewelry only. :D
Lots of us are looking for forums to promote our new Auction Sites, and I got the impression that you only want to discuss ebay. I do see that you allow us to post our items for sell, but it seems that you only want ebay. Please let me know if this is true. I'd be glad to promote my Ebay, but would prefer to promote my new auction site instead. I'm over Ebays fees.
Just a thought.
Thanks Brenda

Dear Jim,
I have gone through your site and really like what I see so far. I know you have probably thought of this but what about a section for just articles?
Like:
starting an ebay business,
Where to find collectibles,
What collector books are the best for a particular niche,
Hint and tips on getting higher prices for your collectables
Tax concerns for your ebay business
Listing tips for lower fees
I also like Brenda's idea about exploring (and explaining) other auction sites
Althought I am just restarting my ebay business again, I would be more than willing to contribute some articles for you. I think it would be a great way to add to your community here.
Just my $0.02 worth
Looking forward to a great time here
Gary
