Hey Everyone,

As I clean up AuctionHints (which also means cleaning up the server a bit) I located some old affiliate links that I used to market.

Some of the ones that were pushed the hardest and that were supposed to lead to guaranteed riches....have now failed and closed down.

One of the most visible ones was AuctionDiner.com. The domain is now for sale. Guess this proves something I have been saying all along. eBay has a nice little niche' and anyone who is going to compete with them has an uphill battle to face, both ways, and there is snow and ice on the ground.

There are many others that I was checking out the affiliate links only to find that the websites were dead. Some involved services, some involved helping others write better ads, some involved better payment methods that would compete with Paypal, and some involved helping sellers gather info that would increase sales.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people come online with big dreams and a mediocre business plan that is centered on taking on a well-established online business entity.

Does anyone else know (or remember) any online businesses that came in with a storm and went out with a whimper? I think it is interesting to learn from the business mistakes of others and besides it is like a trip down memory lane.

Remember the one about pets? I can't even recall the name of it now!

And WOW, have things changed here! Last time I logged on, the format was completely different!

Hey, you just gave me an idea...
a little software thingie to keep track of affiliate passwords and links
and report broken links, changed pages and whois updates.

Would anybody else find that useful?

One of our local papers runs a monthly feature on the survival rate
of new businesses for the past five years...online, the difference is
that many folks go into it for short-term gain, with no long-term
business plan. How of these new 'membership' sites will be around in
a year or six months?

How about an affiliate marketing site that tracks the longevity
and performance of affiliate and jv programs and support services.
With no affiliate links ;)

Best of Success,
Stephan

Hey Steph and All,

I am a firm believer that there are certain trends in business that cannot be ignored because they seem to rotate. In other words something that is a hit right now will be old news tomorrow and a hit again in about a year or so.

Such a program would allow a more accurate prediction of what the future might hold simply based upon what the current trends are in the first place.

Anyone else have any opinions?

Thanks, Jim -
Just what I need, another project ;)

Actually Adrian Ling just released (Dec 3rd) a service
that does this...looks to be especially useful for ClickBank affiliates.
Check it out at CBaffiliates.com (http://CBaffiliates.com)

In the meantime, I'm working on a quick and dirty F-reee utility
and I'll post the detail here when it's done.
