A Little Word of Advice About Powersellers
Posted By: Jim Wilson Date: Tuesday, 11 June 2002, at 4:49 p.m.
Hey Everyone,
Recently someone posted on my forum saying "If they are not a powerseller then they cannot be trusted."
This could not be any farther from the truth folks. Consider this...
When I first started out on Ebay I lucked out. First I found software that was selling like hotcakes. And then I used that income to invest in golf equipment. To be a powerseller you have to have gross sales of at least $2000 per month. Within one month I was grossing about $4000. I was FAR from an expert and yet I easily qualified to be a powerseller. That was about 4 years ago. Now I don't place as much emphasis on what I gross but instead what I net. Afterall, isn't the measure of one's true knowledge their bottom line?
So, to be blunt I don't place much stake in powersellers. I know of at least 3 who went out of business and bankrupt. They grossed over $2000 but netted a loss. And so the real bottom line is simply this. Remain open minded when you have an opportunity to learn something from someone. Regardless of whether or not they hold some sort of nice title investigate someone and give them a chance.
Is this post meant to defend someone? Nope...only to let my visitors know that there are many people on Ebay making HUGE profits who are not powersellers. And even if they are not selling anything on Ebay right now does not mean that they might not be able to assist you in learning. One of THE most knowledgeable people I know online, a Mr. Leo Richardson, used to be a powerseller. He stopped selling on Ebay and moved on. But to this day he knows how to sell on Ebay. To prove this, on a bet, he actually sold a empty soft drink can as art. (the right ad will literally sell anything) If you were to research his Ebay activities he has not sold anything in about a year now. He makes 6 figures designing software and websites now. His last year on Ebay he grossed $125,000 with about a 40% profit margin.
Funny...based on a recent post here there are some people who would blow Leo off as someone who has no idea what he is talking about. It's their loss....
Don't place a lot of importance on someone's powerseller status folks. It's a wonderful title and yes, in many cases at least, it indicates a seller who can be trusted. But it does not indicate in any manner what their real profits are. Think about it.
Just my two cents as usual...Happy Bidding All!
