Hey All,
First of all HAPPY 4th!!!
Now, as for my "message of the day", it's pretty simple. And it's as a direct result of several emails I received asking me...
"When is it best to post more expensive ads on eBay and should I use those other options?"
First I will reply to the first portion of the question.
Basically Featured ads serve two purposes. First of all they bring lots of attention to an item since they are the first ones listed. And secondly they can be used to bring more attention to a seller or more specifically to a seller's other online offers. (Other auctions and even their own websites)
So, as to the question of when to use them. I use them:
1. Whenever I have an expensive item that I want to get lots of visitors to
2. Whenever I launch a new item
3. Whenever I have done my homework and see lots of other ads for similar items and I want to get mine noticed.
Believe it or not price doesn't come into play when I start planning an ad out. It's all about traffic. eBay gets lots of traffic and so it's a matter of a good ad placed into the proper position so as to allow it to get the attention it will need to succeed.
Now, as for those other options. (Bold, Icons, and such) In short I don't use them. I tested several ads to see what effect if any they had. The results? None that I could detect. This was on the exact same ad for the same item that was selling easily. (Popular golf clubs at a bargain price) Making them bold led to no more hits than not. DEFINATELY add a counter to your ads. It's interesting in the end to see how many people came to your ad and how many actually bid. It can be amazing how many hits you can get in a week. (about 1500 is my record by the way)
The bottom line is simply this. Use your money wisely and make your advertising dollars go further. Once an ad has proven it's worth in non-featured and you are about to launch a new product or program, use that proven ad in featured to get more attention and make certain to mention your new item. There you have it...hope this helps!
