In Response To: Anyone Buy From Liquidators? (Torrey)

Hey Torrey,

Yes, I have indeed purchased items from liquidators but not through a "blind order".

I found one locally (about an hour away) and actually went down to take a look. Once there I actually found that they had several pallets that cost the same but had far different merchandise on them. By going down live and in person I was able to select my pallet based on what was on it and what I thought might sell.

Some problems:
1. They did require a minimum order. Unless you have about $1000 to spend, it's not going to work.
2. They don't deliver and the pallets/contents can be quite heavy. You need to make certain you have a way of getting home.
3. They don't warrant the products. If anything is broken, say on the bottom of the pile, it's still yours. You actually have to sign a form that indicates that you understand and agree to this.
4. The top layer and outside layer and items, the ones that you can see, may not truly represent what is actually on the pallet. Just because there is nice electronic equipment on the visible portion does not mean it's throughout. And once again, after you have picked your pallet, it's yours. Whatever is on it.
5. The manufacturer's warranties might also be void. Often the items on the pallets were returned to the major retailer because they were defective. You have no way of really knowing what the defects might be unless you test each item and if you do find something wrong, chances are the original retailer will not cover the cost of any repairs. You are literally buying it all "As Is".

It's a great way to make a little money but don't go in thinking that if you spend $1000 for about $10,000 retail of merchandise that you will sell it for that huge profit. I doubled my money. It took time, a lot of effort, and in the end I got a lot of complaints when stuff didn't work. (Even though I advertised it "As Is")

Let the buyer beware...and good luck,
Jim Wilson
