Words of Warning To All!
Posted By: Jim Wilson Date: Saturday, 6 April 2002, at 4:25 p.m.
Hey All,
I cannot believe it. Twice in the last two weeks, on EBay, I have gotten nailed with negative feedback from buyers. In both cases the buyers never emailed me to even indicate that they were not 100% happy with the CDs they purchased. I back my products fully and have nearly 500 + feedback, but these two "rookies" on EBay decided that it would be best to leave the negative feedback instead of trying to contact the seller to make remedy.
Folks, think about it...
Negative feedback on EBay is the only way that you can tell everyone that you were completely ripped off and dissatisfied with your purchase. It is the ultimate "revenge" essentially. Do you really think that you need to issue negative feedback before even contacting the seller to ask for a refund or an exchange?
Learn from this folks. I will not leave + feedback for my buyers any longer unless they leave it for me. In both cases I had already issued positive feedback for them so they were free to issue the negative feedback without any fear of retaliation.
That is unless you remember this. In the EBay rules of regs, when it starts talking about leaving negative feedback it clearly states that because such feedback can cause damages to the reputation of a seller it is not advised except as a last resort. What they are essentially saying is that they know someone's sales might be affected by a bad comment and by placing that on their site they are telling you, if you leave the feedback, it's your problem. If the seller takes civil action EBay won't be liable. (it says that almost word for word by the way)
When you sell some 500 items in just over a two month period you are going to have some people that aren't happy. Comes with the territory. I am posting this to my friends who frequent EBay to make certain that you know...
first that leaving negative feedback is something you do after you have tried all other avenues..
and secondly that once you leave it, it's there. The damage is done. (one of the buyers actually sent me an email afterwards, "I am so sorry, Jim. I did not mean to hurt your reputation. Only to say that I did not like the CD". How can I remove it?")
Well...you can't.
Just some food for thought. There is a wonderful feature called the "Blocked Bidders List" on EBay. I have quite a list of deadbeat bidders on there. And now it also has a few buyers on it who were less than ideal.
OK, I will step down off of the soapbox now. BP coming back down....
Take care all as usual.
