Yes, you can have unwarranted negative feedback removed BUT you have to prove that it was left by someone who is no longer a member in good standing or that it was left in an attempt to defame you intentionally.
The chances of proving this are very slim. As wonderful as EBay is regarding potential and opportunity there are always going to be those who come there to cause trouble.
I used to honestly believe that the best thing you can do to prevent negative feedback is to give 110% effort towards customer service. Now, in addition to this, I am convinced that you should also hold off leaving them feedback until they leave your for you. That way, in the event they leave unwarranted negative feedback you can at the very least leave them the same to show them EXACTLY how it feels.
No, two wrongs don't make a right. But with EBay's feedback methods if you leave someone + feedback and they decide to leave you negative, regardless of the reason, there is little you can honestly do other than leave a comment to their feedback. And hope that with hundreds of positives and their one negative it doesn't affect sales. Of course if it does affect your sales you can always seek legal council. It even indicates this in the EBay feedback explanation area. It says something to the effect of "Members should realize that leaving negative feedback might adversely affect another member's sales and in doing so, the person leaving the feedback might be liable for those damages." (This isn't word for word, but it is my understanding)
I plan on doing things the same. Giving 110% to make people happy. Making sure I answer all emails. And yes I will leave positive feedback for my buyers. But only after they have left it for me. That is until EBay decides to come up with something better...which is not going to be an easy task. (This isn't the best system but it's the only one we have right now)
Take care all. Sorry about the rant but it really steams me getting negative feedback that was unearned and without warning. If he had only emailed me I would have cheerfully worked with him to assure satisfaction.
Such is life...
